Silent’s New SY80 Flagship Is a Next-Gen Solar-Electric Catamaran
Silent Yachts is going bigger and bolder than ever before.
The Italian shipyard has launched a new flagship that is larger and more complex than any other Silent yacht on the seas. Named simply the SY80, the 80-foot solar-electric catamaran showcases the same green technologies as the rest of the fleet members but on a larger scale.
At the bleeding edge of sustainability, the cat is equipped with a solar array that can generate up to 22.4 kWp of clean power and a battery bank with a capacity of up to 696 kWh. It can traverse the seas near silently and without emissions at a cruising speed of between 7 and 8 knots and a top speed of 12 knots.
The SY80 also offers that quintessential “Made in Italy” elegance and craftsmanship, according to Silent.

The yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests, with a vast open-plan interior and generous staterooms. Owners can choose between three different layouts, including a two-deck design, a three-deck open version, and a three-deck closed configuration. The positioning of the primary suite and the design of the salon change depending on the option.
The first SY80, which is set to debut at the upcoming Cannes Yachting Festival, has already been sold and fully customized. The owners opted for a two-deck layout with four guest cabins, including a primary suite and VIPs. The main deck is home to a panoramic salon—the most spacious in its class, Silent says—multiple lounge areas, and a bar. The upper deck is adorned with large sunbeds, while the aft is outfitted with a fully enclosed garage. More storage can be found on the starboard side hull, meaning seafarers can travel with a full arsenal of toys in tow. To top it off, quite literally, the helm station affords sweeping 360-degree views.

Silent has experienced tremendous growth since its founding in 2019, selling and delivering countless solar-electric multihulls, unveiling tenders, and teasing resorts and residences. It suffered greatly from the economic turmoil caused by the pandemic, though. The builder was on the brink of administration in 2024 but was rescued after a new owner stepped in, restructured the team, and implemented a fresh five-year growth strategy. Silent currently has “a very strong pipeline of orders,” according to new CEO Fabrizio Iarrera. The yard has sold two SY80 cats with three-deck layouts, in fact.
