Singapore Airlines’s New First Class Has Largest Double Bed in the Air
You’ll be sitting—and sleeping—pretty in this airline’s new first class.
Today, Singapore Airlines (winner of best in-flight service in our 2026 Airline Awards) has unveiled its all-new first-class cabins, which will be home to the largest double bed in the skies. The company has coughed up nearly $1.6 billion to overhaul all seating tiers on its long-haul flights aboard its recently retrofitted Airbus 350-900 and the new Boeing 777-9.
The star of the show, though, is First Class. Designed to be a private retreat, each seat is framed by curved sliding doors and walls for even more seclusion while in flight. Poltrona Frau leather upholstery makes up the seats, which are home to smart cabin controls and an adjustable leg rest, upper and lower lumbar supports, and armrests. And if you’re flying with someone in the center seats, that’s when that double bed comes into play: The seats there can be moved together to make a bed that spans 80 inches in length and 60 inches in width (the size of a standard queen bed), or a two-seat sofa when you’re not quite ready for some shut-eye. To keep things cozy, Singapore Airlines will also provide 100 percent cotton bed linens, a duvet, and a new mattress topper by German luxury bedding pro Paradies.

Elsewhere in the first-class cabin, fliers can dine while facing their travel buddy via a large table, which doubles as a workspace with a wireless charging pad and USB-C ports. A personal wardrobe, a vanity drawer, and cabin baggage space underneath the ottoman lets you stow all your belongings out of sight, while a 32-inch 4K high-res touchscreen screen is ready for any and all entertainment onboard, along with the Bang & Olufsen wireless headphones on standby.
The new business class isn’t too shabby, either. Here, the seats are crafted with full-grain leather upholstery paired with custom embroidery; they can transform into a full lie-flat bed 79 inches long and up to 24 inches wide. Other touches include a 4K high-res touchscreen that spans up to 22 inches. To bring each of these new cabins to life, the airliner tapped over 5,000 frequent fliers, customers, and staff to see exactly what customers looked for while in flight, from relaxation to food options.
Singapore Airlines is just the latest brand to give its first class and business class a makeover, showing just how fierce the competition in commercial aviation truly is. Competitors have each rolled out their own over-the-top super suites, from Etihad’s Residence (with a private living room) to Air France’s redesigned La Première (home to four suites.) Even new food is on the menu in a bid to attract customers, with Delta and United debuting a slew of fine-dining dishes ready and waiting to hit the skies. Singapore Airlines’s new cabins will join them soon enough, set to enter service in the second half of 2027.
