Stockman’s Latest Teardrop Trailer Can Go Anywhere

Here’s one teardrop trailer you won’t have to worry about taking to parts unknown.

Stockman has released a revamped version of its popular Rover model. The company has said it wants to build the “ultimate escape pod,” and, thanks to a slew of useful upgrades, the second iteration of the vehicle comes awfully close.

The Australian camping outfit has taken everything people loved about the original Rover—its small footprint and rugged design—and made it even more capable and comfortable. The result is a compact bruiser that you can take practically anywhere and live out of for days at a time, if not longer.

Despite its relatively small size—the trailer is 17.7 feet long, 7.2 feet wide, and 6.8 feet ball—Rover 02 has more than enough room inside for a queen-size, inner-spring mattress. That bed does take up most of the interior, but it does mean that the vehicle can easily sleep two adults. The cabin is also outfitted with two large windows to let the sun and air in, lounging cushions in case you don’t want to spend all day in bed, and tons of drawers and cupboards to store your belongings (a TV and climate control system are available as add-ons). The nose of the trailer also doubles as a dust-proof storage box that you can use to carry your outdoor gear without using up valuable interior storage space.

The biggest change between the new Rover and its predecessor is the gallery. This is the rare teardrop trailer that has everything you need to cook a delicious meal, including a swing-out barbecue, cooker, and sink, along with a 130-liter Bushman refrigerator with a freezer section. Other useful creature comforts include a roll-out shower tent and a deployable awning that offers plenty of shade on a sunny day.

The Rover 02’s upgrades aren’t just focused on making the camping experience more pleasant. The vehicle also features a revised chassis and independent suspension with coil springs and dual shocks. Both upgrades will come in particularly handy if you like to overland. Other features include solar panels, a RECARC power management system, as well as a diesel water heater for the top-of-the-line Ultra model. The trailer can only tow up to 1,190 additional pounds, but it is a teardrop model so that’s to be expected.

There is one major drawback to the Rover 02, though. As of now, it’s only available in Australia, where it starts at around $35,000. Stockman does have a U.S. patent for the design, according to its website, so it might only be a matter of time until the teardrop trailer is available stateside.
