Tankoa Launches ‘Spirit,’ a Fully Custom 170-Foot Superyacht

Tanoka started off July in high spirits.

The boutique Italian shipyard, known for its bespoke builds, just launched a fully custom superyacht from its Genoa facility earlier this week. The 170-footer, the T52 Vitruvius that now has been christened Spirit, was designed with wellness and privacy in mind—and, of course, a connection to the sea itself.

To bring that vision to life, Tankoa tapped London-based Vitruvius Yacht Design (hence the vessel’s moniker) for the new superyacht’s naval architecture and exterior design. The shining star is its beach club, where wellness is at the forefront. The space is home to a gym and spa, which opens onto its own aft terrace, with plenty of room to break a sweat or unwind. Nearby, you’ll find a plunge pool and fold-down side platforms on the stern, too.

Inside, meanwhile, Italian studio FM Architettura focused on filling each room with light. Not much else has been revealed about what can be found in the interiors, but each space is meant to be a calm oasis on the seas, complete with natural materials, soft textures throughout. There will be plenty of panoramic views to take in as well, thanks to a glazed stern door fixed with fixed glass panels and full-height glazing. Spirit can play host to up to 12 guests across its six cabins, with room for nine crew via five cabins, too.

The new 170-foot superyacht can hit a top speed of 17 knots, while cruising comfortably at 15 knots. All that speed is powered by a fully hybrid propulsion system, which offers up both your conventional engines as well as electric motors and batteries. Tankoa also performed an extensive optimization study to maximize efficiency onboard, including details of the hull, weight distribution, and more.

“Spirit perfectly demonstrates Tankoa’s ability to transform an ambitious, highly bespoke vision into reality through exceptional craftsmanship and close collaboration with both the owner, his design team, and our team,” the yard’s Vincenzo Poerio said in a press statement.

Next up, Tankoa will complete the final phase of construction for Spirit. Then, it’s off to sea trials and testing before the superyacht is delivered to its owner.
