The Best in Aviation, From Cirrus Vision to Paris Hilton’s Gulfstream

The second generation of the Praetor 600 takes the super-midsize category’s comfort level to new heights. Among the most noteworthy changes are the new seats, designed and built in-house to deliver precise 180-degree maneuverability and full-flat berthing for sleeping on overnight flights. An electric-assisted release system, dual lumbar supports, three levels of firmness for the cushioning, and forward- tracking headrests are sophisticated features more commonly found on much larger aircraft.

The 600E’s real game-changing amenity, though, is the Smart Window—a 42-inch 4K OLED display positioned about mid-cabin. Produced in partnership with Lufthansa Technik, it can function as a hyperrealistic digital portal with the help of exterior cameras, or as a hub for entertainment and videoconferencing via satellite connectivity. It also turns the typical two-zone interior of a super mid into a three-zone cabin. Thanks to the portside seats and the divan across the aisle that faces the Smart Window, this cluster becomes arguably the most sought-after social enclave in the plane.

ACI Jet’s redevelopment at John Wayne International Airport promises to show just how sophisticated fixed-based operators can be when the 32-acre $125 million campus is completed over the next seven years. At its heart will be an all-new 27,500-square-foot private terminal with a café, a gym, conference rooms, pilot lounge, shower facilities, and customs processing.

The broader project includes more than 300,000 square feet of hangar space. About a third of that will be community hangars that can accommodate the largest business jets, while another third comprises box hangars for helicopters, turboprops, and small to midsize aircraft. The remaining 100 T-hangars are for light general-aviation planes. This multi-type layout promotes more-efficient maintenance and a smarter use of space.

ACI Jet will break ground on the supersize FBO project this month, completing phases in 12- to 24-month increments. The facility will also adopt Orange County’s own modern architectural style so that, as construction takes off, no eyebrows will be raised.

Unveiled in March, the Dassault Falcon 10X takes on Bombardier’s Global 8000 as well as Gulfstream’s G700 and G800 in the ultra-long-range class. Like the others, the 10X is designed to move passengers nonstop between far-flung city pairs such as New York and Hong Kong or Los Angeles and Sydney, doing so with a range of 7,500 nautical miles and a top speed of Mach 0.925. But where the 10X leaves the competition in its slipstream are differentiators such as a composite wing for optimal efficiency, a NeXus flight deck with touchscreen displays, and the FalconEye Enhanced Vision System—the third generation of Dassault’s digital flight-control setup.

The 2,780-cubic-foot interior—with 38 windows that are 50 percent larger than those of other Falcons—can be arranged in either three or four zones, allowing for lounges, dining areas, and a private bedroom with shower. A 3,000-foot cabin altitude at 41,000 feet and a fresh-air filtration system, which uses the same technology as many hospital intensive-care units, combine to keep passengers at their best after going the distance.

From the cockpit through the cabin, the Citation CJ4 Gen3 provides much more than a simple update to one of Cessna’s most storied aircraft in the light-jet category. It’s a sea change when it comes to the pilot experience. The reduced workload via operational efficiency is due to the new Garmin G3000 Prime avionics suite that bundles Garmin’s autothrottles and Emergency Autoland system as standard features. This advanced cockpit promises to bolster the CJ4’s reputation as the ultimate flying machine for single pilots—reflecting its certification—while still presenting right-seat controls for copilots. Redesigned winglets also boost performance.

In addition, Textron’s engineers enhanced internal acoustics to reduce decibel levels in flight and updated conveniences such as wireless charging, USB-A/C ports, and accent lighting around the seats. The interior can also be dressed up with custom leather upholstery and exotic finishes, including stone, to create a highly personalized signature

The concept itself is novel—a private terminal for commercial air travelers. But PS MIA’s soon-to-launch facility is even more unusual, since it builds upon the former headquarters of Pan American Airways—a 1963 landmark known as the Taj Mahal of Miami. Rather than replace the historic structure inside the airport complex, the architectural team at R. J. Heisenbottle retained the building’s midcentury-brutalist bones while showcasing original details like Pan Am logos, gold paneling, and long reflecting pools.

The interior mixes terrazzo, marble, and smoked glass with a layout that feels almost like someone’s palatial home, and PS designer Cliff Fong used contemporary soft surfaces to instill a modern sensibility. A central courtyard—surrounded by suites, salons, and balconies—separates the 30,000-square-foot terminal into smaller zones ideal for multiple guests. This preservationist approach makes the restored building feel more considered than flashy, as history was permitted to do most of the work.

The Swiss-made Pilatus PC-12 has seen seven iterations and more than 2,200 examples since its first flight in 1991. Nicknamed the Flying Suburban, the single-engine turboprop is popular for both corporate and cargo missions, thanks to its generous, configurable interior and short-field landing capabilities (including grass runways). But the first PC-12 Pro, recently delivered to an Australian client, is more like an airborne BMW 7-Series due to its aesthetic considerations. Its cabin refresh features redesigned cabinetry, improved lighting, larger windows, and more-ergonomic executive seats, with optional interior themes by BMW Designworks. The exterior also includes aerodynamic upgrades.

What really stands out about the model, however, is Pilatus’s new Advanced Cockpit Environment. It packages Garmin’s innovative assists, such as G3000 Prime—featuring 14-inch touchscreen displays and smart controllers—Emergency Autoland, Smart Glide, Electronic Stability and Protection, and an updated stall-avoidance system. Yokes inspired by the Pilatus PC-24 jet have also been added for smoother flight control. And with the upgraded Pratt & Whitney PT6E-67XP engine, the PC-12 Pro has a range of 1,765 nautical miles at 290 knots.

Eve is not the largest, fastest, or longest-flying eVTOL being readied for the fast-approaching air-taxi market, but that was never the plan. With a maximum cruise speed of 126 mph and a 60-mile range, the five-seater is designed for brief hops from airports to urban centers or for short regional travel. Its simple “lift plus cruise” engineering takes a different path to flight than the tilting rotors and complex morphing wings favored by competitors. Instead, Eve has eight propellers dedicated to vertical takeoff and landing, with a fixed wing and rear pusher prop for forward flight. Unlike rival craft, there is nothing to pivot or rotate—so less to malfunction—as it transitions between flight modes. This simplicity means fewer moving parts, easier maintenance, and, ultimately, a smoother path to certification. The Florida-based aerospace firm, aligned closely with its majority owner Embraer, expects to achieve initial certification late next year.

Private-jet travel with a choice of formats, from regional jaunts to multi-continent itineraries, gives Abercrombie & Kent an edge over the competition. The Southern Africa by Private Air offering, for example, is one of A&K’s Small Jet Journeys—utilizing midsize aircraft that carry fewer than 15 guests. This package combines stops at Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, and the red dunes of Sossusvlei with memorable hotel stays, fine dining, and luxury safari camps.

A&K’s Private Jet Journeys, by contrast, include multi-continental programs built around a customized Boeing 757 with 50 lie-flat seats and divans that convert into four-seat dining tables. The crew of 18 includes a physician, an executive chef, guides, and stewards who travel with the group. Founder Geoffrey Kent leads several tours around the globe that feature off-the-grid locations and access to sites closed to the public. Kent’s upcoming October tour includes a private helicopter excursion from Jakarta to the remote Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary in Indonesia’s Way Kambas National Park, where A&K staff will build a helipad just for the occasion. Think of it as jet-setting with more than a hint of Hemingway.

Of the 30 enhancements made to the G3 Vision Jet, the most readily visible is the aptly named 6+1 seating. The G3 can now accommodate seven, including the pilot and copilot in the cockpit, thanks to the new wraparound rear bench that gives the cabin more of a lounge vibe than a typical private-jet interior. With the G3, Cirrus also showcases a more refined palette of material choices in the newly designed seats, including Alcantara hand-wrapped around a hard-shell back, redesigned tray tables, and personal device mounts. Other luxury touches like the carbon-fiber finishes were adopted from its SR G7+ line. Upgraded LED cabin lighting also contributes to greater in-flight comfort.

The pilot is the prime beneficiary of the G3’s betterment, though, given the functionality and simplicity built into the Cirrus Perspective Touch+ flight deck, showcasing ATC datalink capability that allows pilots to exchange texts with air traffic control rather than relying solely on radio communications. Other developments like 3D Safe Taxi and Taxiway Routing contribute to the aircraft’s improved situational awareness and reduced pilot workload. Add to that such safety features as Cirrus’s trademark ballistic parachute and Garmin’s Autoland (marketed as Cirrus Safe Return), and it’s easy to see why the G3 Vision Jet is highlighted here.

Apps are quickly reshaping private aviation, turning what can be a sluggish, broker-led process into an Expedia-like experience. Our favorite newcomer is from Elevate Jet, which consolidates sourcing, pricing, and booking. Ruby, a proprietary A.I. agent, evaluates a 300-point checklist that includes real-time aircraft availability, crew-duty limits, and airport constraints—all in seconds instead of the conventional approach that often requires multiple phone calls between the client and charter broker. This due diligence brings consistency to a market that can be opaque when it comes to important but often overlooked details.

The app delivers instant pricing based on route, timing, and operational logistics. The platform learns client preferences—from aircraft type to onboard amenities to destinations—for customized use. It also provides a choice of either instant booking or a more traditional concierge model, layering human customer assistance on top of the algorithm. The latter handles both immediacy and nuance, allowing you to book a jet in minutes and still have an expert look over the wine list.

Designed for the F.A.A.’s Light-Sport Aircraft category, the Air One two-seat eVTOL is not as large or complex as the latest generation of air taxis coming on line, but its 550-pound payload, 100-mile range, and one-hour flight time are impressive compared to single-seat competitors with comparable recreational missions. The cockpit’s “fly-by-intent” control system helps automate stabilization, power management, and other flight tasks, making the One intuitive to operate.

The Israeli firm sees the initial operators focusing on personal mobility in airspace where the craft can be flown legally, with the horizon eventually widening to other missions. The airframe shape and bubble-like window are designed to enhance the visibility and comfort of the occupants, while foldable wings and retractable motor arms allow it to fit into a home garage or a standard parking space for accessibility. Air’s Heavy-Lift UAS cargo, an unmanned VTOL built around a similar platform, has been operating for two years, while the more refined Air One, with new avionics, motors, and upgraded battery systems, is undergoing flight testing. Expecting an airborne revolution, the company is building a production facility in Florida capable of turning out hundreds of examples per year.

At first glance, Paris Hilton’s reimagined Sliv Air Gulfstream G450 may seem like an unusual choice for best interior, but its boldness makes it one of the most decorative and functional cabins in recent memory. Rather than utilizing the usual neutral veneers and muted leathers, the interior works through seven shades of pink (including two now labeled Paris Pink) that are layered across the stitched-leather seating, the hummingbird prints on the headliner, and even the custom carpet. The seats themselves are deeply cushioned and have extended footrests and reconfigured spacing, allowing the main cabin to shift from upright seating into a more lounge- like arrangement with multiple sleeping zones.

A separate media area with a large screen creates a second social bubble, and the galley feels residential rather than utilitarian, with marble countertops, wood cabinetry, and integrated lighting. Designer Sarah Mespelt Larrañaga’s key move was cohesion: Every surface—from the embroidered upholstery to coordinated accessories such as eye masks—reinforces Hilton’s identity. Love it or not, it’s the most immersive interior we’ve come across in a conventional business jet.

The R88 represents a major departure from Robinson Helicopter Company’s stable of value-focused rotorcraft, which comprises the two-seat R22, the four-seat R44, and the five-seat R66. Unveiled last year, the clean-sheet 10-seat design of the R88 will now place the company squarely in the executive-helicopter segment. Alluding to the R88’s versatility when it comes to configuration, Robinson has referred to the new model as having “the utility of a pickup truck” for medical and firefighting missions. The California-based outfit will also be partnering for the first time with Safran, the French manufacturer of aircraft engines, to equip the R88 with the Safran Arriel 2W turboshaft power plant.

The R88’s specs are impressive: It can accommodate two pilots and up to eight passengers, carry an internal payload of about 1,800 pounds (with full fuel), and deliver an estimated range of 350 nautical miles, plus it’s capable of a 3.5-hour flight time. The Garmin G500H TXi glass cockpit, a four-axis autopilot allowing hands-off flight, and dual removable cyclic controls also lift this helicopter into a rarefied market space. First test flights are expected this year, with certification anticipated for 2028.
