The Brabus 1000 Offers Supercar Acceleration

Brabus will never be content to leave well enough alone.

The German tuner has just unveiled the 1000, its typically outrageous take on the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance. The base vehicle is already one of the best sports cars on the market, so Brabus decided to bump its performance up to supercar levels.

The AMG GT 63 S E Performance sports a sophisticated look, but as the name suggests, it can be a beast once you get behind the wheel. The latest version of the $195,000 coupe is equipped with an all-wheel-drive powertrain that features a front-positioned 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 and rear-mounted 150-kW synchronous electric motor. The pair combine to produce 805 hp and 1,047 ft lbs of torque, enough to push the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds and to a top speed of 199 mph.

That wasn’t enough for Brabus, though. The company has swapped AMG’s powertrain for a setup that features one of its 4.5-liter twin-turbo V-8s and a “high-output” electric drive system. Thanks to these upgrades, its modified coupe makes 972 hp (which works out to 1,000 PS, hence the name) and 1,195 ft lbs of torque. The extra grunt cuts a tenth of a second off the car’s zero-to-62-mph time, making it not only faster than the standard AMG GT 63 S E Performance but McLaren’s latest halo car, the W1, too.

Brabus didn’t limit its tinkering to beneath the 1000’s hood. The gloss black model wears one of the tuner’s trademark outlandish carbon-fiber aero kits. This build’s includes a more aggressive front fascia with a new splitter and canards, revised wheel arches, and a much larger rear diffuser. The interior has also been given one of the shop’s less-than-subtle makeover. The already luxe cabin now features loads more carbon-fiber trim, scallop-patterned quilted leather, and plenty of Brabus branding.

Already imagining what Brabus’s all-black speed machine will look like in your garage? The tuner is taking request for the 1000 now, though the tuner’s website. The company has yet to announce pricing for its latest build, but considering that a less powerful version of the AMG GT, dubbed the 750, was available last year starting at around $350,000, it figures to be quite steep.
