The Macallan Just Released a New Orleans-Inspired Whisky

The Macallan releases a lot of whisky over the course of a year, so it should come as no surprise that the distillery is squeezing in yet another special edition before the end of 2026. This one is the last in the “A Night on Earth” series, which is meant to highlight the different ways that people around the world celebrate the coming of the New Year. This latest release is called the Finale for a good reason—it’s the last in the series—and this time the focus is on New Orleans.

Of course, you can’t actually translate New Orleans into whisky, unless maybe you decided to infuse it with cajun spice or sprinkle some beignet powder on top of a glass. In this case, it’s more about the design and packaging theme than it is about the actual liquid inside (which, to be fair, we were not provided a sample to taste). According to the brand, the whisky was aged in a combination of sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks, something that applies to many of the Macallan’s single malts, and in this case was meant to achieve the following effects: “rich sweetness from sherry-seasoned American oak is balanced by warming spice from sherry-seasoned European oak, honoring the city’s legendary culinary heritage and cocktail culture.” The whisky was bottled at 43 percent ABV (86 proof) and has no color added.

As mentioned before, the Finale is the last whisky in the A Night on Earth series, which has previously included Scotland, the Journey, Jerez de la Frontera, and, most recently, the First Light. “A Night on Earth has become a cherished collection celebrating New Year traditions from around the world,” said Macallan creative director Jaume Ferras in a statement. “It is fitting that this final chapter honors New Orleans—a city renowned for its creativity, resilience and extraordinary sense of community.” The distillery worked with New Orleans-born artist Hill Spriggins to design the bottle’s outer packaging, which is meant to evoke the spirit and culture of the Big Easy. To that end, Spriggins created three different pieces of art that are combined into a “multi-stage unboxing experience,” reflecting what she describes as the sounds, colors, and memories that define the city for her and, hopefully, many others.

The Macallan A Night on Earth, The Finale is available to purchase now via the brand’s website and the Macallan Estate Boutique now (SRP $125).
