The Porsche Taycan Black Edition Adds Performance and Range

Porsche just made the all-electric Taycan stealthier.

The automaker unveiled the new Taycan Black Edition, which comes with the Taycan’s Performance Battery Plus as standard, expanding the car’s EPA-estimated range to up to 318 miles and output up to 509 horsepower. The Black Edition is a new special-edition variant available on the lowest-cost Taycan models, the base Taycan, the Taycan 4, and the Taycan 4S.

Included in the Black Edition is the SportDesign package, which adds “high gloss black” in various places, including the side mirrors, window trims, and model designation in the back. The aluminum door sill guards are also black, as is the illuminated Porsche logo in the back. Much of this black is only available on the Taycan Black Edition.

The car is also shown painted in black, but, somewhat confusingly, Porsche says you can order the Taycan Black Edition in various non-black colors too, including silver and gray. Further options are available in what Porsche calls its Sonderwunsch program, allowing buyers to customize further, especially the interior. Exclusive Black Edition badging will communicate to people that the Taycan is a Black Edition.

“The Black Edition is more than a sum of its parts,” Porsche said in a press release.

The Taycan is almost six years old now, having debuted in 2019 in Frankfurt, at a time when an all-electric Porsche was a novelty. What the car has proven since then is that it’s one of the very best electric cars in the world. In hindsight, that’s no surprise with an automaker of Porsche’s pedigree, but, in the beginning, it was not as much of a given, with Tesla riding high at the time and other luxury automakers still skeptical of EVs.

Six years is also a long time in the automotive industry, and even with a refreshed Taycan introduced in 2024, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer might be starting to feel like the Taycan needs a new buff. Or at least a new special edition, which Porsche does a lot of. The Taycan Black Edition more than fits the bill.

Porsche did not disclose pricing, but the company’s configurator shows a price of around $125,000, which can vary with options. Deliveries to customers will start this fall.
