This 2024 GMA T.50 Hypercar Could Fetch Over $6 Million at Auction
There’s a special place in Professor Gordon Murray‘s heart for the numeral 47. It’s said to be his favorite; he used it as the race number for his first-ever design, the low-slung T.1 two-seater that he penned, engineered, and built in his bedroom—at age 17. Then, in June of 1995, his then-new McLaren F1 GTR race car won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright, doing so on Murray’s 47th birthday.
Now, a 2024 Gordon Murray Automotive T.50 hypercar, one of the coveted 100 examples built and with just 62 miles from new, is heading to auction in an RM Sotheby’s Sealed Bid sale. Coincidentally, it’s chassis No. 47.

“All T.50s are unique, but this one is extra special, and not only because of the number 47 connection. It’s unregistered, undriven by the owner, and has an amazing specification. It’s essentially a brand new car,” Harvey Stanley, director of private sales for RM Sotheby’s, tells Robb Report. “For someone who wasn’t able to acquire one of the original 100 T.50s, this is a remarkable opportunity to own what is, undoubtably, the most exciting driver’s car produced thus far in the 21st century.”
According to Murray, the T.50 represents a further refinement and improvement on the fabled McLaren F1 that he designed back in the early 1990s. The T.50 followed the F1’s single-minded pursuit of lightness, as it weighs less than 2,200 pounds. Powered by a 3.9-liter naturally aspirated Cosworth V-12—capable of revving to 12,100 rpm and packing 654 hp—the car sprints from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 226 mph.
The cockpit is trimmed in charcoal Alcantara, and the center-mounted driver’s seat is covered in contrasting Luffield Tan leather.
The Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) T.50 was unveiled online in August of 2020, and the entire production run sold out within 48 hours of the reveal, despite a base price of 2.36 million pounds sterling, or roughly $3 million. Buyers included Jay Key, frontman for the band Jamiroquai, four-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti, and Baton Rouge–based exotic-car collector Dan Heard. It was Heard who famously appeared on Jay Leno’s Garage with his light blue T.50 and matching McLaren F1 and P1. Fashion icon Ralph Lauren is rumored to be another owner.

As for an auction history for the model, Beverly Hills–based tech entrepreneur Matt Katz hit the headlines in April this year when he paid $8.035 million for a T.50 (chassis No. 009) at the California Mille sale through Broad Arrow Auctions. After buying the Reef Red car, and driving it on the second half of the California Mille rally, he quickly changed the color with an electric racing-blue vinyl wrap. Since then, the only other T.50 to come up for auction was chassis No. 035, delivered to a Danish buyer in 2025, and sold at the RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi auction in December of last year for $5.63 million.
According to Stanley, chassis No. 047 was completed at GMA’s new state-of-the-art Highams Park headquarters in Surrey, England, in 2024. The owner specified it in tasteful Harrier dark gray paint, which was then covered in a satin paint-protection film to give a stealthy matte finish. Its exterior trim, including the car’s trademark rear fan, is finished in satin carbon. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in charcoal Alcantara with the center-mounted driver’s seat covered in contrasting Luffield Tan leather.

“From the day it came out of the factory, the car has been mothballed in a professional car storage facility in the U.K., and never driven aside from factory testing and auction photography. It remains in virtually as-new condition throughout,” notes Stanley. Will T.50 values continue to soar? According to Stanley, the model has already doubled in value in just six years, so there’s no reason to think prices won’t continue to rise.
“Obviously, only time will tell whether the T.50 becomes the next McLaren F1, with its $20 million values. Sounds outrageous, but not when you look at the way Ferrari Enzo values have now surpassed those of the legendary [Ferrari] 250 SWB,” Stanley says.

As to whether this T.50 is in some way connected to Gordon Murray’s own collection, the secrecy and confidentiality with the RM Sotheby’s Sealed Bid auction means we’ll probably never know. “No comment,” says Stanley. The Sealed Bid auction itself kicks off on September 23 and closes on September 30 at 2.45 p.m. EDT. This T.50 has a price estimate of between approximately $5.68 million and $6.22 million.
