This New 131-Foot Explorer Yacht Concept Brings Elegance to Voyages
ER Yacht Design wants you to explore the farthest reaches of the ocean in style.
The Canada-based studio has just unveiled a new expedition yacht that combines long-range cruising capability with head-turning aesthetics.
The new ER 40 marks a departure from regular explorer designs, eschewing that typically boxy silhouette in favor of a cleaner, more sculptural profile with elegant lines and long, horizontal glazing that creates a modern yet timeless feel. Featuring a distinctive bow, carefully balanced volumes, and a strong superstructure, the yacht is refined enough for Mediterranean cruising, but rugged enough for far-flung adventures.
“This is a yacht designed for owners who want the freedom of serious cruising without giving up elegance, comfort, or visual appeal,” the studio says in a statement.
The aft decks.

The deck arrangement fosters alfresco living, with several outdoor areas positioned throughout. The aft deck opens to the sea, making it a great spot for water sports. The bridge deck and flybridge provide ample space for sky-high entertaining when cruising the seas or at anchor. The foredeck, meanwhile, features a huge sun pad for lounging. No pool or Jacuzzi, but the sea is literally at your doorstep.
The interior is described as “warm, modern, and calm,” with soft neutral fabrics and stone surfaces contrasted by natural wood finishes and darker gloss accents. Cleverly integrated lighting brightens everything up, while large windows connect guests to the sea. The layout includes open social spaces, four well-proportioned guest cabins on the lower deck, and a generous owner’s suite on the main deck.
“The intention is not to create an interior that feels over-designed, but one that feels inviting, refined, and easy to live with,” the studio adds.

The salon.
The ER 40 is certainly elegant, but the studio says that the yacht still offers the strength, practicality, and presence expected of an explorer. The design can be further developed around the selected propulsion package, hull form, classification, range targets, fuel capacity, crew arrangement, and tender storage, meaning prospective owners can put their spin on it. As such, there are no performance specs at this stage. To give you an idea of speed and range, Numarine’s newly launched 40MXP pocket explorer, Mitan, which measures 128 feet, can cover 6,000 nautical miles at 8 knots. It’s equipped with twin MAN 800 hp diesels, in case you’re wondering what to add to the ER 40.
