Trista Sutter ‘Safe and Sound’ After Husband Ryan’s Cryptic Posts

Bachelorette alum Trista Sutter is setting the record straight after husband Ryan’s cryptic Instagram posts had fans concerned for her well-being.

“I’m safe and sound, happy and healthy, in love and grateful,” Sutter wrote on Instagram Saturday, with the caption appearing next to a photo of her family on the beach in Mexico.

Explaining her absence after Ryan’s posts suggested an estrangement between the couple, with him writing that she’s “inaccessible” and “searching” but that he misses her, Sutter wrote, “An opportunity for perspective and personal growth presented itself and with the unconditional support of my family and friends, I chose myself and betterment, knowing that my stay-at-home-mom job and my kids end-of-the-school-year needs were in the best, most capable hands.”

She added that Ryan “decided to share his love for me in messages that would find me in my travels,” and marveled at the response to his notes.

“We look at Instagram like a digital diary. Most of the time, the world doesn’t pay too much attention,” she wrote. “This time, he couldn’t say anything right and just about every news outlet picked up his ‘cryptic/confusing/attention-seeking/dramatic’ pictures and captions. To me, they gave me exactly what my Words of Affirmation love language needed to get me through some serious self doubt and fear…and that’s all that matters. He doesn’t owe anyone any explanation or require permission to post what he wants to post and share what he wants to share.”

Sutter added that she’d share “the rest of the story” in “due time.”

Sutter’s post is the second such clarifying message from the couple in recent days, with Ryan previously addressing the speculation.

Last week, Ryan, marveling at the attention his posts got 21 years after the couple married in a wedding televised on ABC, wrote that his message was for his wife “for a time when she could eventually read it.”

“She understood the context and so did I. No one else did however, and that’s where things went sideways,” he continued. “It was suggested that Trista had died, we were in trouble or that it must be a mid life crisis among many other creative ideas.”

He added that after his post picked up steam, he “started getting texts from friends asking if I was OK. All because I missed my wife and chose to share how that felt.”

Indeed, fans had speculated that the couple, who matched during her 2003 season of The Bachelorette, had separated or even that Sutter had died.

And Sutter had a sense of humor about the more extreme guesses.

“Geez people. Can’t a girl have a nervous breakdown/trial separation/midlife crisis/death/divorce in peace around here?!,” Sutter began her post adding the zany and joy emojis. And she closed it writing, “After all, nervous breakdowns and separations require much needed rest and relaxation!”

Earlier this month, Ryan shared a black and white photo of himself and Sutter, writing, “I really wish I could talk to you. Ask you how you’re doing? How was your day. I’d really like to hear your voice — just for a minute. So many times I’ve called without much to say, not realizing how lucky I was or how much I’d miss the opportunity if it were gone.”

He added that though he couldn’t be there for her, “that’s OK cause I know you need this time — time to discover yourself again. So I’ll be here for you instead. I’ll be here when you get back. I’ll be here to listen to you, to smile with you, maybe cry with you — I’ll be here to love you … I’ll be here … forever.”

Shortly after his initial post, Ryan tried to assure fans, writing on Instagram, “Trista is fine. We are fine. We’re great.”

He added, “Trista is at a place in life where she is searching a bit. An opportunity presented itself that may help her on that quest. With her family’s support, she has taken it. Part of that process means that she is temporarily inaccessible to us. I miss her. We miss her.”
