You Can Now Rent a Ineos Grenadier from Hertz
It just got a lot easier to get behind the wheel of an Ineos Grenadier.
The throwback 4×4 will now be available to rent at select Hertz locations nationwide, the automaker announced this week. The rental company is adding the high-spec Fieldmaster variant to its fleet as part of the expansion of its lineup of premium vehicles.
Ineos may have only begun building the Grenadier in 2022, but the British-designed and German-engineered vehicle, which is available with a wagon or a pickup-style body, is as old-school as they come. The off-roader wasn’t just inspired by the original Land Rover Defender; it was designed to replace an SUV that has changed dramatically over the last decade, much to the chagrin of off-roading enthusiasts like Ineos founder Jim Ratcliffe. It features a boxy body that recalls the 4x4s of the past, a steel ladder-frame chassis, beam axles, a long-travel suspension, and a traditional internal combustion engine.

While all Grenadier are well-suited for all-terrain fun, the Fieldmaster variant also comes with its fair share of creature comforts that you won’t find on the base model. These include leather heated seats, safari windows, and a premium sound system, the sort of features you’re not guaranteed to find on every original Defender. It’s also powered by a BMW-sourced 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that makes 282 hp and 332 ft lbs. This is a vehicle designed for crawling over rocks not street racing, but it can still accelerate from zero to 60 mph in around eight seconds and reach a top speed of 102 mph.
“Introducing the Grenadier to Hertz customers gives more drivers the opportunity to experience our vehicle’s capability and engineering firsthand,” Gregor Hembrough, Ineo’s executive vice president of the Americas, said in a statement. “It also highlights the strong demand we’re seeing as our brand continues to grow its presence across North America.”
While Hertz rates vary based on availably and location, rental does offer a more accessible way to seeing what it is like to live with the Grenadier. Those impressed with the experience can purchase the vehicle through their nearest Ineos dealer. The Fieldmaster and its luxe features starts at $83,100, though if you want the stealthy and exclusive Black Edition you can expect to pay closer to $99,000.
