You may know him as the immature, f-bomb-dropping, Gerri-loving Roy sibling, but these are some things you probably didn’t know about Golden Globe winner Kieran Culkin.

Roman “We do rollercoasters and hate speech” Roy is undeniably one of the most memorable characters of Succession, and that’s thanks to Kieran Culkin’s portrayal. Culkin is very much like his character, except a lot friendlier and more personable, but Succession isn’t his first time at the rodeo. The 41-year-old American actor, who has currently been making the rounds in the media thanks to his award wins and his “feud” with Pedro Pascal, has been acting since he was young and comes from a family familiar with the business. Here are some things you may not know about Kieran Culkin.

He’s two years younger than Macaulay Culkin

It’s no mystery that he’s the brother of Kevin McAllister himself; the last name is kind of a dead giveaway. He’s the fourth of seven Culkin kids after Macaulay. He also had a half-sister who unfortunately died in 2000. Aside from Macaulay, his younger brother, Rory, is also an actor who won the Gotham Independent Film Award for Breakthrough Actor in 2014.

He was in Home Alone with his brother

Yep, he wasn’t the only Culkin on the Home Alone set. While his older brother took on the main role of the borderline murderous Kevin, Kieran played his cousin, Fuller, the cute bespectacled kid who doesn’t go easy on the Pepsi or the Coke in the sequel. That’s right, Kieran reprised his role in Home Alone 2 and had more lines this time around. 

His aunt was Bruce Willis’ wife in Die Hard

Bonnie Bedelia played the estranged wife of John McClane, Holly, in 1998’s Die Hard. Holly is one of the hostages taken by the late great Alan Rickman’s Hans Gruber, which of course draws the ire of the heroic McClane. Bedelia is actually her middle name; her real last name is Culkin. Her brother, also an actor, is Kit Culkin, the father of Kieran and his siblings. 

He wasn’t comfortable improvising in Succession but became great at it as time went by according to Brian Cox

Prior to the release of the third season, the cast of Succession sat down with Stephen Colbert for an interview. Brian Cox, who played the Roy patriarch Logan, revealed that Kieran wasn’t too comfortable at improvising when they started the show. “Before we started, he never improvised once,” said Cox. “He couldn’t improvise at all. And now he is extraordinary.” 

He dated Emma Stone, and they recently reunited at the Critics’ Choice Awards

Before Emma was with Andrew Garfield, she was with Kieran. They met on the movie Paper Man and dated from 2010 to 2011. Just last week, they reunited at the Critics’ Choice Awards. There’s no bad blood between them. In fact, Kieran says it’s weird to refer to Stone as his ex. “To me, she’s just a really good friend of mine and my wife’s. She’s lovely and great,” he said in a Rolling Stone interview. 

He told his wife her name was “fu**ing stupid”. They were married a year later

In an interview with THR, Kieran revealed how he met his wife, Jazz Charton. In 2012, the two met at a bar. Kieran asked her what her name was. She told him it was Jazz. In true Roman Roy fashion, he said, “Well, that’s fu**ing stupid.” Maybe others would have been offended, but Charton found it hilarious. A year later, in 2013, they got married. 

Their wedding was lowkey and happened during a road trip that lasted longer than they planned

There are only a few public details as to what the couples’ wedding was like, and rightfully so, but Charton did share a glimpse and a few details in her anniversary post back in 2020. It seemed to be a spur-of-the-moment thing: they had planned a road trip to Iowa that was supposed to last six weeks. Instead, they were away for three and a half months. The couple were married in the presence of three strangers according to Charton. Afterwards, it seemed that their only public announcement was Charton posting on her IG a picture of two pillows with “Mr. Culkin” and “Mrs. Culkin” embroidered on them.
