The Mammoth Overland WLY Mammoth Goes Off-the-Grid Even In the Winter

Mammoth Overland doesn’t want you to put off your next off-the-grid adventure just because it is cold out.

The camping company has just unveiled a new compact trailer called the WLY Mammoth. The rugged model has room for two in its wool-lined interior and was specifically designed to withstand, what the brand calls, “cold harsh temps.”

Like the company’s other adventure rigs, the HV and ELE, the “Wooly” just looks tough. It has a sharp angular body finished in maroon and gold and rides high thanks to its lifted Timbren 3500HD suspension and a set of 33-inch Toyo tires. It is compact, so a trio of features you’d normally find inside a trailer—a fully equipped kitchen, a portable cassette toilet, and a shower—are only accessible from outside the vehicle. These features are connected to winter-proofed lines and a tank heater so you don’t have to worry about water freezing. The trailer also comes equipped with an amber light bar, a modular roof rack with an awning, and an array of four exterior molle panels that you can attach your winter gear too.

The interior is what really sets the WLY Mammoth apart—and also helps explain its name. Everything inside the vehicle, aside from the floor and shelving unit, is covered in checkered insulated wool. The cabin isn’t exactly spacious—it’s designed for two—but Mammoth Overland has managed to fit a king-size mattress in there. It’s easy to imagine it being cozy inside the trailer no matter how cold it is outside. There’s also a cabin cooling system to keep things comfortable in the warmer months.

The WLY Mammoth comes equipped with an 800-Ah self-heating battery bank. That should be more than enough power for a trailer of this size, but if it’s not, there’s also a set of dual 100-watt solar panels and a 4,000-watt generator to keep everything running even when you’re away from the grid.

Planning to get away from it all this (or next) winter? Mammoth Overland is taking orders for the WLY Mammoth now through its website. The trailer costs $56,000 and deliveries are expected to begin during the first quarter of next year.
