A Pristine Midnight Purple Nissan R33 Skyline GT-R Is up for Grabs
The Nissan Skyline GT-R is a modern classic that is common on the streets of Japan but far less so in the U.S. Here’s your chance to help change that.
A 1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R NISMO S1-Specification is up for auction by Cars & Bids in the iconic Midnight Purple hue, with several upgrades and modifications. Some of those advancements include the NISMO S1 package, a rear wiper, power locks and windows, and automatic climate control.
As for those modifications, those include 18-inch racing wheels; additional NISMO features like a different front bumper, seats, gauge cluster, and air intake; modified exhaust; and a Sony radio. The changes look tastefully done from the photos—something that’s not always the case with Skyline GT-Rs, which are among the most modified cars ever made.
The Skyline GT-R NISMO S1-Specification is powered by a 2.6-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. That engine made 276 horsepower, though the listing notes that modifications may have increased that amount. The car has 115,500 kilometers on the odometer, or about 71,800 miles, and is right-hand drive.

Skyline GT-Rs were introduced in 1969, with a second generation launching in 1972. Over a decade hiatus followed, until the model returned with a third generation (R32) in 1989 and, thanks to its exploits on the track, became a legend. The fourth-generation (R33) was launched in 1995, with the Skyline GT-R NISMO S1-Specification released as a 1996 model year version. The Skyline GT-R reached its apogee with the fifth generation (R34), which was launched in 1999 and built until 2002. Skyline GT-Rs weren’t sold in the U.S., but an import market has remained highly active years after production ended.
The most coveted version of the Skyline GT-R is the GT-R M-Spec Nür, which is one of the greatest sports cars of the 21st century and regularly goes for six figures. The Skyline GT-R NISMO S1-Specification is less coveted but still a desirable example of a car whose legacy only seems to improve. it is currently bidding at $79,500, but, with a couple of days left to go in the auction, it might reach six-figures, too.
