This One-of-a-Kind Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Just Sold for $2.6 Million
The Chevrolet C8 Corvette ZR1X is turning heads in more ways than one.
Over the weekend, a one-of-a-kind Stars & Steel example of “America’s Hypercar” sold for $2.6 million at Barrett-Jackson’s annual Scottsdale sale. The stunning hammer price, all of which will go to charity, is more than 12 times what the range-topping version of the vehicle normally costs.
The ‘Vette in question is a special version of the 1-of-250 Stars & Steel variant announced last month as part of Chevrolet’s celebration of the U.S.’s 250th birthday. This example, unlike the less exclusive edition, has been hand-painted in custom Dark Satin Steel with blue accents (including on the brake calipers and rear wing) and features a Santorini Blue interior. Untouched is the 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes 1,250 hp and 828 ft lbs of torque. The variant can rocket from zero to 60 mph in 1.68 seconds, making it the quickest American production car of all time.
All proceeds from the sale will go to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

The winning bidder was NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick, who paid $2.6 million for the patriotic Corvette. Chevy hasn’t announced how much the Stars & Steels variant costs, but the “standard” ZR1X starts at $207,395. That means the motorsports executive paid more than 12 times the sticker price for his car. It also makes Hendrick’s car one of the most expensive Corvettes of all time. The priciest is the one-off 1957 SS Project XP-64, which sold for $7.7 million. The most expensive C8, meanwhile, is the first ZR1 example, which the exec bought for $3.7 million in last summer.
All of the proceeds from Hendrick’s latest ‘Vette will go to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The charity is focused on eradicating veteran homelessness and provides mortgage-free houses to affected families and builds smart homes for injured heroes.

“To honor those who serve, Chevrolet created a 1-of-1 edition of America’s quickest production car, the Corvette ZR1X,” said Scott Bell, Global Chevrolet vice president, said in a statement. “We’re proud to know the winning bid will go directly to supporting first responders and veterans in need across the United States through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.”
Last week, news broke that Chevy is thinking about building more limited-run, few-off, and bespoke Corvettes. This weekend’s auction may have had the added draw of helping out a good cause, but it also shows that there are deep-pocketed enthusiasts out there eager to spend big on special editions of the C8.
