With any deeply rooted tradition, layers often get added over time that further enrich the experience. The observance of Monterey Car Week is no exception. After all, its very existence is due to a gradual compilation of attractions added as a prelude to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which commemorates its 75th edition this year.

Yet while Sunday’s presentation at Pebble and Friday’s convergence at the Quail remain the primary draws, Motorlux is the midweek fete that’s fast becoming a contender. Its increasing popularity is due not only to the quality of classics, supercars, and the latest luxury aircraft on hand, but also for showcasing some of the key players driving the region’s exceptional wining and dining.

“Motorlux exists to bring enthusiasts together and kick off car week. It’s a celebration of incredible cars, gorgeous food, and friendship,” says Marc Burns, C.M.O. of Hagerty—collector-car insurer and steward of the motoring community—which owns and operates the exhibition. “This year, we leaned into provenance-led themes, creating food, wine, and vehicle experiences inspired by Jaguar, Bugatti, Italian V-12’s, and Japanese GTs. And, just like last year, eventually the dance floor became the place to be!”

But then, what’s not to celebrate? The Monterey Peninsula is once again the annual epicenter of car culture, and its already shaking big time thanks largely to Motorlux. Here, a few of the machines that got to the event’s core.
