This 154-Foot Superyacht Was Inspired by Italian and Japanese Culture
East meets west in Studio Segno’s newest concept.
Named Maai after a Japanese term (ma-ai) relating to meaningful spacing, timing, or intervals, the 154-foot superyacht combines Japanese restraint with Italian conviviality to create an onboard environment that can be both zen and buzzy. As the studio puts it, Maai translates the space between two cultures into a way of living at sea.
The design is the brainchild of studio founders Giovanni Paszkowski and Çağla Enginer. Paszkowski penned the distinctive exterior, incorporating layered decks as a nod to Japanese pavilion architecture and a sleek, angular superstructure inspired by a katana. Enginer designed the interior, balancing clean minimalism with a warm palette and rich woods.

The layout is split into two distinct zones, with quieter, more private areas forward and lively social areas aft. At the center sits an expansive salon with a large dining table, a sunken lounge, and a sculptural staircase leading to the owner’s deck. The owner’s cabin, cleverly positioned at the bow, opens to a forward terrace with a Jacuzzi. Above that, the upper deck features a wellness area.
Another staircase leads to the lower deck. Interestingly, the beach club that typically sits on the aft deck has been replaced with a dining area and lounge that acts as the social heart. Two fold-out balconies and a drop-down swim platform create a direct connection to the sea.
“Life on board follows a continuous journey from sunrise, stillness, and privacy at the bow to shared evenings aft,” the studio says.
As for grunt, Maai is imagined with two MAN V-12 engines that give her an estimated top speed of 15.5 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.
Though it is only a concept at this stage, the yacht is already turning heads. Maai was recently shortlisted for the 2027 International Yacht & Aviation Awards by design et al. The industry awards, now in their 16th year, celebrate excellence, innovation, and craftsmanship across the global superyacht and private aviation sectors. The ceremony will take place in Capri, Italy, next May. Fingers crossed Maai notches a win.
