A Collection of Rare Antique Trucks Is Heading to Auction Next Month

Classic trucks will finally get their turn in the auction spotlight next month.
The Timber Crest Farms Collection, a selection of more than a dozen vintage big trucks and haulers, is set to go up for bid next month during Mecum Auction’s annual Glendale sale. The assortment of trucks—which were all built between 1917 and 1956—offer plenty of proof that even the most functional of vehicles can be beautiful.
The collection shares its name with the farm, manufacturing, and wine collective located in Sonoma County, California, at the heart of what is known as Wine Country. It has been built and maintained by the farm’s owner, Ronald Waltenspiel, who first fell in love with trucks while joining his father on delivery runs when he was a boy, according to the auction house. Waltenspiel’s life has taken some unexpected turns over the decades, but his passion has never waned, and now, at age 92, he’s decided it is time to share his collection of lovingly restored trucks with others so that his family isn’t forced to do so later.

“I wanted to take care of some business so that my wife doesn’t have to,” he said in a statement.
The Timber Crest Farms Collection consists of 4 trucks, 13 of which were made by Sterling and one by Peterbilt. The amount of love and care that Waltenspiel has been into each restoration makes it hard to pick a favorite from the bunch, but it’s easy to imagine the oldest of the bunch, a 1917 Sterling 2.5 Ton (picture up top), will garner plenty of interest. No member of the collection looks less like the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverados of today, but that’s actually a very good thing. There’s also the 1931 Sterling FCS210, which is guaranteed to turn heads thanks to its bold orange and blue paint job and extra set of wheels. The sole Peterbilt model, a black-and-white 1956 351 truck, is about as charming as bruising haulers come.

All 14 trucks from the Timber Crest Farms Collection are set to go up for auction on Wednesday, March 19, as part of Mecum’s Glendale 2025 sale. Each lot is being sold without reserve, but considering their condition and historical significance, don’t be surprised to see some big-money bids come in.
