Brabus’s Latest G-Wagen Is the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio
It doesn’t look like Brabus will get tired of doing outrageous things to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class anytime soon.
The German tuner has just unveiled its latest take on the iconic 4×4, the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio. It’s not the first open-top G-Wagen we’ve seen from the shop, but it is the most powerful and available in not one but two flavors this time around.
If you remember Brabus’s last convertible 4×4, the XL 800 Cabrio, you know what to expect. The company has taken the AMG G 63 and chopped off its roof and everything above the beltline beyond the C-pillar. In place of the roof is a motorized soft top that features 500 newly developed components, including a carbon-fiber bow that helps it keep its shape at high speeds.

The lack of a fixed roof isn’t all that separates the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio from other G-Wagens. The 4×4 has also been equipped with a bold body kit that includes a more aggressive front fascia, hood scoop, and even larger fender flares. The grille and three-pointed star have also been swapped out for a new unit that features two red slats and the shop’s “B” logo. Rounding things out is a set of bespoke “Platinum Edition” monoblock wheels that are modeled after the three-spoke rims found on many of Brabus’s 1980s builds.
The convertible’s cabin has also been given an extensive makeover. It features a four-seat layout, with center console between both rows. The space is covered from ceiling to floor in black leather and Alcantara, with high-gloss carbon-fiber trim on the consoles and dashboard and Rocket Red accents throughout. Each seat also has quilted leather inserts with the tuner’s trademark shell pattern.

Brabus is a performance tuner, which means it also reworked the AMG G 63’s already potent powertrain. The convertible comes equipped with a 4.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8—Mercedes’s version opts for a 4.0-liter engine—with forged pistons, high-performance connecting rods, and a special billet crankshaft. The reworked engine mill makes 888 hp and 922 ft lbs of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Brabus says the 4×4 can sprint from zero to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a computer-limited top speed of 149 mph. The vehicle also comes equipped with an adjustable suspension that can drop ride height by 1.8 inches.
Brabus plans to build just 10 examples of the 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio, so you’ll want to reach out to shop quickly. Pricing for its latest creation starts at 890,740 euros, which works out to a little more than $1 million.
