Chevrolet Confirms Corvette Grand Sport Is Last C8 Variant
There are no new Chevrolet C8 Corvettes on the horizon.
The automaker has confirmation that the just-unveiled Grand Sport will be the final variant of the iconic sports car’s eight generation, according to GM Authority. That means we now have a better understanding of what the Corvette lineup will look like for the foreseeable future.
The confirmation comes via an otherwise innocuous video that the automaker posted on YouTube last week, entitled “Meet the New Grand Sport.” About halfway through the clip, the market manager for Chevrolet’s performance vehicles, says: “This isn’t just the return of the Grand Sport model, it’s the final piece of the for the eight generation of Corvette.”

That means that going forward, there will be four distinct C8 models for sports car buffs to choose from. The entry-level option remains the Stingray, which is followed by the Z06, the Grand Sport, and, at the top of the range, the ZR1. Each model is available as a coupe or convertible, while the last two have high-performance X sub-variants. The Grand Sport X will replace the hybrid E-Ray in the 2027 lineup, while the ZR1X is currently the fastest American-made production vehicle to ever circle the Nürburgring.
If Chevrolet does end up sticking to this stance—never say never in the automotive industry—the Grand Sport represents a pretty strong way to round out the lineup. The sixth iteration of the Corvette’s most revered model was unveiled last week and will be available in two flavors. The base Grand Sport features an enlarged 6.7-liter V-8 that makes 535 hp and 520 ft lbs of torque. The E-Ray-replacing Grand Sport X adds a high-voltage battery and a potent electrical motor to the mix, boosting output to a 721 hp and 660 ft lbs of torque. We’re still waiting for the full details, but we don’t think we’re going out on a limb by saying the new Grand Sports, which are expected to start at around $90,000, will be quick and fast. They also both come with a range of optional racing stripes and hashmarks.

Does the arrival of the final C8 Corvette mean the generation is nearing it end? Possibly, though it seems unlikely that the next version of nameplate will arrive before the start of the next decade. Concepts unveiled over the last year suggest the next iteration will be bold and potentially available as an EV.
