Genesis wants drivers to know what it has in store for them.

The Korean luxury marque unveiled its latest attractive concept, the Neolun, on Monday night. The stunning prototype is the brand’s first full-size SUV and is thought to be a preview of an upcoming EV that will be called the GV90.

We’ve seen some attractive concepts from Genesis over the years—the X Convertible immediately leaps to mind—but the Neolun is among the best-looking yet. Despite its large stature, the vehicle’s design, which was inspired by “Korea’s iconic moon-shaped porcelain jars,” exudes sophistication. Full-size SUVs have rarely looked so sleek.

What immediately caught our eye is just how smooth the Neolun is. From front to back, there is not a sharp edge in sight. Despite this, there is a defined quality to its shape, which is refreshing considering some of the jellybean-like EVs currently on the road, Adding to this, is the display vehicle’s striking two-tone Midnight Black-and-Majestic Blue paint job, distinctive twin-line light package that includes an illuminated triangular “grille.” But the highlight of the exterior has to be its coach doors. The Neolun has no B-pillar but does have two sets of doors on both sides that open up to reveal a spacious interior.

Just as much attention has been paid to the design of the interior as the exterior. The wide-open cabin is meant to represent a modern interpretation of Korean hospitality and features two large and cushy captain-style seats up front. Those seats can be spun around to face the back row, a feature we hope can only be utilized when the vehicle is stopped. The entire space is covered in premium materials, including cashmere and “vintage-inspired” leather, and the climate-control vents have been swapped out for heating films that more effectively control the temperature without blowing air in your face.

There are, of course, multiple screens around the interior including an adjustable display that appears to pop out of the dashboard and another that folds out from the rear-seat headliner. The cabin is also equipped with a speaker system that Genesis calls a “sound architecture” that utilizes an array of speakers, tweeters, and woofers to produce immersive audio. Some of these features won’t make it to production, of course, but it’s clear that Genesis is trying to think outside of the box.

The Neolun’s announcement is short on technical and performance details, but it’s been reported by multiple outlets, like Car and Driver and Motor1.com, that an EV based on the concept will go into production. Because of its size, the vehicle is expected to be the brand’s next flagship SUV and will likely be called the GV90 (the G90 is the company’s flagship sedan). More information, including when a production version will debut, should be available before the end of the year.
