Glam Up This Christmas with Make-up Artist Sapphire Shen

Make-up artist Sapphire Shen loves Christmas. In fact, she loves it so much she’s shot a make-up campaign for no one but herself, every year, in honour of the festivities.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, the gifts, yes the mulled wine and – duh – presents. But what makes the holiday season even more exciting is an excuse to dress up and glam up. And nobody knows glam quite like Hong Kong makeup artist Sapphire Shen.

Each year, Shen produces an ambitious Christmas campaign – not for a brand or client – but for her own self.

My annual Christmas photoshoot is a collaborative effort with fellow creatives. It serves as an opportunity for self-reflection and goal-setting for the upcoming year. I view makeup and creative direction as expressive art forms that enable us to visually communicate our thoughts and emotions. In 2023, in a post-COVID era that has inundated us with a multitude of emotions, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and lose sight of our true feelings, purposes, and, most importantly, our inner sparks.
