Like his lovelorn character Ted Mosby in the CBS hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother, the newly-married Josh Radnor is a hopeless romantic. This past week, Radnor tied the knot with his wife, clinical psychologist Dr. Jordana Jacobs in an intimate ceremony that fans of the show have dubbed ‘the most Ted thing to do, ever’. And while the curtain has closed on this beloved series, Radnor’s existence in the real world is a fun reminder that the spirit of Ted lives on.

While a little bit of drama makes for riveting television, the same cannot be said for important life events. But as fate would have it, Josh Radnor is a drama magnet through and through. This past week, the 49-year-old How I Met Your Mother alumnus tied the knot in a romantic ceremony held in Hudson Valley’s Cedar Lakes Estate – in the middle of a snowstorm.

In a plot twist worthy of modern television, the Radnors’ now internet-famous wedding took a sharp turn into chaos when a blizzard threw their plans awry, forcing all 174 guests plus event planners, staffers, and the 10-person wedding band to spend the night at the venue.

And if that sounds like something Radnor might have acted out in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, you’re not alone in thinking that. Fans of the show were quick to point out the similarities between Radnor and his on-screen persona, who has likewise experienced disruptions at critical romantic moments in his life.

Where is the How I Met Your Mother cast now?

The final season of How I Met Your Mother aired in 2014, a full nine years after its initial release. Since going their separate ways, the primary cast members have gone on to make their mark in the entertainment industry.

Chief among them is Cobie Smulders, who has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Agent Maria Hill, first in The Avengers (2012), and then in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (2013-2015), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spiderman: Far From Home (2019), and Secret Invasion (2023). Beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Smulders has also appeared in television shows Friends From College and A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The same success appears to have followed Radnor’s fellow castmates; Alyson Hannigan has gone on to star in TV movie Kim Possible (2019), Disney’s Flora & Ulysses (2021), and more. Jason Segel has since accepted roles in television and on the big screen, appearing in The End Of The Tour (2015), Our Friend (2019), Dispatches From Elsewhere (2020), and Windfall (2022).

Likewise, Neil Patrick Harris, who portrayed serial philanderer Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother has also gone on to carve out a name for himself among Hollywood’s biggest stars. Like Smulders, the actor went on to appear in A Series of Unfortunate Events and The Matrix: Resurrections (2021). Harris eventually reprised his role as Barney in How I Met Your Father (2023), and enjoyed a guest role in Doctor Who (2023). Most recently, he has appeared in a leading role in Showtime’s Uncoupled, a TV show who follows a single gay man in his mid-40s who grapples with the abrupt loss of his partner after 17 years together.

Despite securing cameos from both Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris, the HIMYM spinoff How I Met Your Father was a short-lived endeavour. Starring Hillary Duff, Kim Cattrall, and Christopher Lowell among others, the series was sadly cancelled after a brief two season run.

Josh Radnor’s net worth and salary

Though he is not the richest member of the How I Met Your Mother cast, Josh Radnor currently claims a tidy net worth of about USD 30 million. The widespread success of the hit series provided a significant contribution to the total, with Radnor receiving a salary of USD 225,000 per episode for the final seasons.

Beyond his time on How I Met Your Mother, Radnor, who is also credited as a musician, writer, and filmmaker, has also appeared in starring roles on multiple television shows including Mercy Street (2016-2017), Rise (2018), Centaurworld (2021), and Fleishman Is In Trouble (2022). Most recently, Radnor has appeared alongside Al Pacino and Logan Lerman in Amazon’s conspiracy drama television series Hunters, which follows the adventures of Nazi hunters through the decades.

Additionally, Radnor has held a guest role on ABC’s hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and dabbled in theater, first debuting in a 2002 production of The Graduate at Plymouth Theatre. While little is known of Josh Radnor’s salary for these roles, they have all contributed to his current net worth.

Seven ways the newly-married Josh Radnor mirrors Ted Mosby

1. They are both hopeless romantics.

Ask anyone who’s seen more than one episode of How I Met Your Mother, and they’ll tell you that Ted is a hopeless romantic – sometimes to the point of self-destruction. Prone to making grand gestures that tether on the edge of being questionable, Ted wears his heart on his sleeve and has no trouble professing his feelings with deepest sincerity.

With Josh Radnor recently getting married amid a literal snowstorm, it’s easy to see that he shares his romantic streak with his on-screen persona.

2. They both have doppelgangers.

In Season 5 of How I Met Your Mother, the group’s doppelgängers were introduced as a key plot point. The theme recurred throughout the season, with the doppelgängers highlighting the difference between the group and the lives they might have otherwise led. Fans of the show have since provided their own conspiracies as to the meaning of the doppelgängers – most interestingly, however, is the fact that Radnor has his very own famous doppelgänger in real life.

While his on-screen doppelgänger was a Mexican wrestler affectionately nicknamed ‘Mexican Wrestler Ted’, Radnor’s real-life doppelgänger is much more prolific. During the 2014 World Cup, Radnor made headlines for bearing a striking resemblance to Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Radnor himself addressed the resemblance, joking in a tweet, “Been tough playing goalie for Mexico while also rehearsing this new Richard Greenberg play, but I’m getting it done.”

3. They both had ‘Eureka’ moments when meeting their wives.

In the final episode of the series, Ted finally meets the love of his life and answers the burning question nine seasons in the making: Who is the mother of his children? While the answer to that question would eventually reveal itself to be his future wife Tracy, it is the way Ted instantly becomes lovestruck that directly parallels Radnor’s first meeting with his now-wife.

In an interview with The New York Times, the actor shared that he first met his wife at a three-day sound meditation retreat in February of 2022. The retreat, which was held in upstate New York, provided the perfect meet cute for the duo to strike up a conversation and make a connection. Radnor goes on to add that the group had ingested psychedelic mushrooms as part of the meditation experience, after which he lay on the floor with an eye mask, accompanied by the hums of singing bowls and chimes and the woman he would someday be married to. Even then, a voice in his head had said, “That’s her. That’s your woman.”

4. They’re both from Ohio.

While Ted is from Shaker Heights, Ohio, Radnor was born and raised in Columbus, just a little over 240 kilometres away.

5. They both treasure their friendships.

Speaking to New Potato, Radnor once drew attention to his character’s dedication to friendships, saying, “We both place a premium on friendship.”

This is in line with Ted’s characterisation, which frequently emphasises how much he cares about his friends, and in particular, Marshall, his best friend. This is best illustrated in episode 15 of season 3, where Ted sells his car to raise money for Marshall, who had been struggling financially.

6. They are both optimists.

In the same article, Radnor also points out that he is an optimist, like Ted, who manages to preserve hope for finding ‘the one’ despite suffering many romantic setbacks. Though, unlike his character, Radnor is vehemently against saying ‘I love you’ on the first date.

7. They are both Jewish.

In episode 8 of season 6, Ted describes himself as ‘half-Jewish’ – likewise, Josh Radnor was raised in Conservative Judaism and attended an Orthodox Jewish day school, the Columbus Torah Academy.
