Jack Daniel’s Is Releasing New Batches of Its Age Statement Whiskeys
Back in 2021, Jack Daniel’s released its first age-statement expression in more than a century, a 10-year-old Tennessee whiskey that was, by all reports, excellent. Since then, the distillery that is known best for Old No. 7 has released two more age statements at 12 and 14 years old, each of which has become very popular amongst collectors and aficionados. Jack just announced the release of new batches of these whiskeys, and for the first time you’ll be able to purchase one of these limited-edition bottles via an online sweepstakes.
The three whiskeys in question are Jack Daniel’s 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 2, 12-Year-Old Batch 4, and 10-Year-Old Batch 5. “The Jack Daniel’s Aged Series allows us to fully explore how time influences our classic Tennessee whiskey recipe while staying true to the character Mr. Jack established generations ago,” said master distiller Chris Fletcher in a statement. “The feedback we continue to receive on the Aged Series has been overwhelming, and I’m excited for our friends to see how these new batches bring their own personality and subtle differences thanks to extended maturation.”
The whiskey starts out with the same mashbill as all Jack Daniel’s whiskey (aside from the rye): 80 percent corn, 12 percent malted barley, and 8 percent rye. It’s filtered through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal before barreling, part of the Lincoln County process that defines Tennessee whiskey, and is then aged in new charred oak barrels. Batch 2 of the 14-year-old (SRP $150), the oldest and most recent age statement whiskey release, is bottled at 117.6 proof and has notes of cinnamon, butterscotch, leather, and pipe tobacco on the palate (we did not get samples yet, so these were provided by the brand). Batch 4 of the 12-year-old (SRP $100) is bottled at 107 proof, and has notes of cinnamon, maple candy, caramel, dry oak, and baking spices. And batch 5 of the 10-year-old (SRP $90) is bottled at 97 proof, and has notes of molasses, chocolate, and barrel spices.
As mentioned before, all three of these bottles are available to purchase via an online sweepstakes through the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn. You can enter this sweepstakes until April 7, and winners will be able to purchase a bottle through a local retailer until June 12 (you can’t pick which age, however, that will be determined by the sweepstakes). You can find many other Jack Daniel’s whiskeys, including previous age statement editions, at websites like ReserveBar now.
