New Artwork Exhibitions to Verify Out in Hong Kong This February
At the new art exhibitions this February artists look outwards in their pursuit of beauty, bravely putting their own body in front of a camera lens, erecting monuments from sheets and slivers of paper, or finding inspiration in familiar landscapes and objects.
Transforming Taboos
When: Until March 16
For What We Are, De Sarthe gallery invited eight artists to dissect and examine human nature, resulting in a spectacular body of photography, works on canvas and videos. Pictured here is an artist’s nude self-portrait, challenging synthetic boundaries of gender, ideas of utilitarian biology and, evidently, the ubiquitous obsessions with physiological symmetry.

For those inclined to melancholic rumination on the now-fading holiday blues, Wu Sibo’s solo exhibition Impermanence at Flowers Gallery might just be the inspiration they need. Through atmospheric paintings devoid of colour, Wu’s depictions of everyday life in urban and rural China induce contemplation, nostalgia and tranquillity.

Still Light, Spanish artist Javier Leon Perez’s first solo exhibition with Soluna Fine Art, examines how mundane objects can be reimagined through a contemporary lens. The showcase also features new oil paintings inspired by paper models and embodying an expressive interplay of light and shadow.
