Nicolas Cage Weighs in on Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider

Nicolas Cage is endorsing Ryan Gosling‘s upcoming take on Ghost Rider, nearly two decades after he played the character.

Cage starred in 2007’s Ghost Rider, following motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze who sells his soul to become a bounty hunter of evil demons; he reprised the role in 2012 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Fast forward to this year, and Marvel announced at Comic-Con that Gosling would be leading a new Ghost Rider film, directed by Shawn Levy.

At the premiere of his new movie Madden, Cage weighed in on the new adaptation, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “Ryan’s going to do his thing with it and I’m looking forward to seeing it. Ryan knows how I feel about him as an actor; we’ve had nice conversations and we stay in touch. I was happy for him and wished him best of luck on his adventures and I look forward to seeing the movie.”

During the Comic-Con announcement in July, Gosling emphasized, “This is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.” There is an additional layer as well, as Gosling’s wife Eva Mendes appeared alongside Cage in the original 2007 film; she has also supported her husband in taking over the fiery character.

The new Ghost Rider project is currently dated for July 28, 2028, and in addition to Gosling, Heated Rivalry breakout Connor Storrie is in talks to star as the film’s villain.

As for Cage, he is currently playing John Madden in David O. Russell‘s new film Madden, following the football icon and his relationship with Raiders owner Al Davis. Madden is hitting limited theaters on Nov. 11 and starts streaming Nov. 18 on Prime Video.
