Hideo Kojima is the man. Here are the reveals from the January 2024 PlayStation State of Play that got us excited.

Ever since PlayStation announced its first-ever State of Play of 2024, fans have been speculating what could be unveiled during the event. Those with eagle eyes noted that legendary game producer Hideo Kojima, true to his enigmatic nature, posted the time and date of the State of Play on his IG. This led many to believe that the Death Stranding sequel would be featured in the presentation.

Well, they were right. Death Stranding 2 was unveiled—and so much more.

Big Reveals from January 2024 PlayStation State of Play

We got a full mysterious trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

Most of us still don’t fully understand what Death Stranding was about and it seems like it’ll be the same case with its sequel. Sam, played by Norman Reedus, is now out of America and has joined a new organization that calls themselves Drawbridge. The trailer surprisingly gives us gameplay footage as well as the stunning vistas and fearsome creatures Sam will encounter along the way. Leave it to Kojima-san to make a “courier simulation” so thrilling and baffling.

Hideo Kojima announced he’s working on a brand new “action espionage game”

Years after Kojima-san parted ways with Konami, which sadly meant that there would be no more new Metal Gear games (we don’t talk about Survive), he’s now revealed that he’s working on a brand new “ next generation action espionage game”. “We hope to transcend the barriers between film and video games,” Kojima-san said, saying that the “interactive game” is also a movie “in terms of look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound.” Furthermore, Kojima-san has called this title the “culmination of [his] work]”. It was also revealed that the game has a working title: Physint

The Silent Hill 2 remake got a (short) gameplay trailer

As short as this trailer is, it’s still cool to see what the Silent Hill 2 gameplay is going to be like. The remake modernizes the combat and amps up the sheer horror as James fights horrific creatures while exploring the cursed town of Silent Hill. There’s still no release date yet though.

And there’s a new Silent Hill game—and it’s out today!

But perhaps to make up for brevity and lack of a specific release date, an all-new Silent Hill game was also announced. Titled Silent Hill: The Short Message. Not only is it a brand-new game, but it’s out right now and absolutely free to play for the PlayStation 5.

We got our first look at Stellar Blade—and it’s definitely something

The new action-adventure Stellar Blade finally got a trailer that showed off its gameplay and story. Players take control of Eve, a Bayonetta-esque fashion-forward soldier who looks nothing like it and is tasked to fight a race of aliens on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Basically, the game is an anime fever dream.

Judas is the most BioShock game that’s not BioShock from Bioshock creator Ken Levine

Ken Levine and his very own studio, Ghost Story Games, finally pulled back the curtain on their very first title, Judas. Not a lot is known about the game but judging from the trailer, it looks eerily similar to Levine’s Bioshock games albeit more futuristic. Guess we’ll have to wait to find out what the game’s really all about.

There will be a special State of Play next week dedicated solely to Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth

The one game everyone expected to be there was absent: Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth—but for good reason. Before the State of Play ended, Sony’s director of portfolio Shawne Benson announced that a State of Play dedicated solely to the game will be held next week on February 6.
