Veteran film editor Ruben Navarro is making his feature directorial debut with Me, After You, a LGBTQ+ coming-of-age drama to star Alex Sorian Brown and Giacomo Rocchini.

The bilingual English-Spanish language pic, exploring themes of immigration and sexuality, will be shot in Los Angeles. Me, After You will follow Daniel, played by Sorian Brown, a Spanish writer who has a complicated romance with Andrea (Rocchini), and is left heartbroken when Andrea returns to Italy.

That’s until Daniel meets Maria, played by Sofia Kunz, an Argentine woman trapped by societal expectations, which leads both to confront their fears and rediscover the courage to embrace their true selves, according to a synopsis from the producers.

Sorian Brown has credits that include Hour and Twenty, In the End and Everything Will Be Okay. Rocchini starred in Cabrini and Hulu’s Catch-22, and Kunz appeared in Kiss of the Con Queen.

Navarro, as an editor, has credits including Apple TV+’s Lady in the Lake, directed by Alma Har’el and starring Natalie Portman, Sam & Kate, starring Dustin Hoffman and Sissy Spacek, and Wannabe, an Ecuadorian short film that screened at Tribeca.

The ensemble cast for Me, After You includes Cristo Montt, Elisabetta Fantone and Ros Gentle. Navarro chose to shoot his film in Los Angeles while other indie producers are taking projects elsewhere.

“This film is a love letter to Los Angeles and to outsiders who come here seeking love, identity, and belonging. We’re committed to showcasing the authentic multicultural reality of this city, with characters who reflect it,” Navarro said in a statement.

Me, After You is produced by Navarro through his RURU Films banner and Dalia S. Beltran, who will shop the film at the American Film Market. Marko Alonso is the cinematographer.
