The Four Horsemen Team Opens I Cavallini, an Italian Restaurant in NYC

The team behind the Four Horsemen is branching out.

The Michelin-starred wine bar (and still one of the hardest reservations to snag in N.Y.C.) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer by opening an new restaurant in Brooklyn. Located right across the street from the Four Horseman in Williamsburg, the anticipated Italian eatery, called I Cavallini, officially opened its doors today.

The 64-seat spot is helmed by Nick Curtola, the executive chef at the Four Horsemen, alongside chef de cuisine Ben Zook. All the pasta dotting the menu are made in house by the culinary team. That includes farfallone with Calabrian chili butter and smoked pancetta, trofie with pesto and belper knolle, and bucatini with sungold pomodoro and ricotta salata. For your antipasti, expect focaccia with whipped ricotta and roaster cherry tomatoes, as well as fried eel toast with pine nuts and mussel panzanella. Rounding out the menu are dishes such as a roasted golden chicken with garlic and grilled hearts, manila clams with saffron, lemon, and vermouth, and bluefin tune with chervil gremolata and risina beans.

The wine list continues that Italian theme, with wine director Flo Barth (another Four Horseman alum, the No. 2 to the late Justin Chearno) curating more than 100 bottles to kick things off—and more offerings may be coming. In keeping with Four Horsemen tradition, the selection highlights plenty of smaller producers; some of the vino up for grabs includes Tenuta La Novella 2022 Sambrena Tuscany and a Bussoletti 2023 Colle Murello Umbria.

Unlike the Four Horsemen, I Cavallini will have a cocktail list, too. Jojo Colonna, of Manhattan’s Attaboy fame, is taking the reins here as bar director. You can sip on Speed Dial, the spot’s iteration of an espresso martini with vodka, maru espresso, Nardini amaro, and biscotti liqueur, or try out an Americano Royale, with Fino, Rondo Spritz, Prosecco, and orange. Gin fans, meanwhile, can enjoy a Safe Harbor or a Pomozoni.

To try out I Cavallini for yourself, head to 284 Grand Street from 5 pm to 10 pm, Wednesday through Saturday.
