This Rare and Rarely Driven Ferrari 599 GTO Will Soon Be up for Grabs
Perhaps no other combination of letters elicits as visceral a response among automotive enthusiasts as “GTO.” Ferrari’s fabled acronym for Gran Turismo Omologato basically signifies a grand-touring race car that’s been homologated for production. In 1962, Ferrari debuted the appellation with the 250 GTO—now the blue-chip benchmark of collector cars—and applied it again to the GTO of 1984. Maranello’s iconic designation was subsequently given to the 599 GTO, introduced in 2010. It’s that latter incarnation that will be showcased at auction house Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale sale, which runs from January 17 through 25.

The 599 GTO broke cover publicly at the Beijing International Motor Show in April of 2010, though the marque had released images and specs for the model prior on its website. The foundation for the car was the 599XX, what Ferrari referred to as an “advanced experimental track car.” The press release for the 599 GTO touted it as “the company’s fastest ever road car,” at least to that point, and went on to mention that it stood out from the rest of the Prancing Horse stable for its engineering focus on “the integration between a handling set-up tuned for a level of responsiveness that is close to the limit and highly sophisticated electronic controls.”
The power train comprises a 6.0-liter V-12—with 661 hp and 457 ft lbs of torque—mated to, as Barrett-Jackson’s lot description notes, “an F1 SuperFast electro-hydraulic six-speed automated transaxle with an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.” The combination allows the 3,296-pound (dry weight) performer to cover zero to 62 mph in 3.35 seconds and top out at more than 208 mph.

Ferrari’s official media announcement at the time goes on to bring out that the car’s responsiveness was enhanced from that of its predecessors by way of the “second-generation magnetorheological suspension control system.” It also states that, as a result, the model is “very stable under braking, sharper on turn-in, more precise in cornering, and quicker out of corners.” This bolstered athleticism was made evident when the 599 GTO set a then-record lap time at Ferrari’s own Fiorano circuit.

The car on offer—which Barrett-Jackson reports has last been in the shop for maintenance back in December of 2024—was initially delivered to Canada, but eventually made it stateside in 2015. The exterior is dressed in Rosso Corsa, save for the Grigio Silverstone Opaco reserved for the roof. Select aerodynamic elements, such as the rear diffusor and front spoiler, are presented in carbon fiber, as are certain interior trim features. Complementing the muscular aesthetic are 20-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. Yet what perhaps sets this 599 GTO apart from the other examples is the odometer reading, which shows only 531 miles.

Although the price of this car when new is cited as $624,166, a substantial return on investment from that sticker is almost a certainty, despite the fact that this lot does not have a reserve. In 2024, a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTO—with less than 3,000 miles on it—sold through Bonhams for $907,200. Closer to the ceiling in value, though, is the 2011 example auctioned through RM Sotheby’s during this year’s Monterey Car Week in August. In pristine condition and with only 110 miles recorded, it fetched $2.04 million.
“The Ferrari 599 GTO is one of the most desirable sports cars to roll out of Maranello . . . a Rosso Corsa masterpiece with its high revving V-12 engine, gorgeous styling, and motorsports-derived equipment,” says Craig Jackson, chairman and C.E.O. of Barrett-Jackson. As for this example in particular, he notes that it’s “a very low mileage car” and adds that it “would be the centerpiece of any collection.”
