Tykun’s New 42-Foot Aluminum Tender Wants to Be a Mini Motor Yacht

Who says support vessels can’t be practical and stylish?

Tykun, a new Italian builder launched by the MED Group in 2025, has unveiled a new flagship at the Monaco Yacht Show that combines elegant design with proven engineering. Dubbed the Tykun XII, the 42-footer builds upon the 37-foot Tykun X that debuted at Monaco last year, but is larger and more luxurious.

Tykun’s own Benedetta Iovanek developed the original concept, with yacht designer Tommaso Spadolini executing the design and naval architect Carlo Bertorello responsible for the hull and structural engineering. The MED Group also shaped the design, drawing on engineering expertise it has gained from delivering more than 400 military and patrol vessels over the past decade.

“Our aim is to bring into the world of luxury yachting the know-how developed through vessels designed for military engineering and the most demanding operating conditions, combining performance and reliability with the elegance and comfort of high-end Made in Italy design,” MED Group CEO Marco Galimberti said in a statement.

The yard says the Tykun XII has “the proportions of a compact luxury yacht,” with a beam of nearly 11.5 feet creating enough onboard space for six to 14 guests. Both the hull and deck are built in aluminum, while the hardtop is carbon fiber. Fit for both short joyrides and multi-day cruising, the tender features a raised forward profile for sturdiness, a stepped hull for high-speed performance, and an enlarged fender system for added protection. Propulsion comes in the form of twin outboards, ranging from 400 to 450 to 600 hp. With the most powerful engines, the boat can soar to over 50 knots.

The Tykun XII is available in High Bow and Low Bow configurations, which have slightly different layouts. The High Bow iteration, like the one presented at Monaco, has a raised bow, a large interior, and a generous forward sunbathing area, while the Low Bow variant has a more compact interior and a spacious bow with a dining area.

In both versions, the helm sits at the center of the main deck, protected by a wraparound windscreen with a reverse rake. Behind lies a fully equipped bar that can be enjoyed in all conditions thanks to the hardtop. Further aft, the cockpit is equipped with fold-down side bulwarks that open to create an expansive alfresco entertaining area by the sea. The lower deck can be outfitted with a double bed, V-berths, or a convertible living area, as well as a separate bathroom with shower and dedicated storage spaces.

“The High Bow and Low Bow configurations are not simply two different bow options, but two distinct interpretations of how to experience the boat, both built around the same technical platform and the same character,” adds Iovane.

As with all models in the three-strong lineup, the Tykun XII offers extensive customisation options, meaning each unit can be tailored to the owner.
