‘Yellowstone’ Star Cole Hauser Simply Launched a New Bourbon Model

Another celebrity booze brand has just entered the market, and surprisingly it’s not a tequila. But that wouldn’t quite fit given who the actor is behind this new bourbon—Cole Hauser, co-star of the hit show Yellowstone. We have the details about this new whiskey, limited as they are.

Hauser partnered with two people to create Lazy K Bar Whiskey—David Leuschen, the owner of the Montana cattle ranch that the bourbon is named after (said to be one of the oldest in the state); and Montanan and spirits industry veteran Britt West, VP and GM of spirits for E. & J. Gallo Winery. “This is a legacy project for all partners involved,” said Hauser in a statement. “We wanted to bring something to market that we’re proud of and that people can enjoy with their friends and family for 100 years to come. Montana is an extraordinary place with a lot of character, and our goal is to make sure that is reflected in Lazy K Bar Bourbon.”

As for the bourbon itself, it is produced at an undisclosed distillery in Kentucky and matured in that state for a minimum of eight years in alligator char No. 4 barrels (the same char level used by Wild Turkey), and bottled in Bozeman, Montana at 92 proof. The mashbill is revealed—a classic bourbon recipe of 74 percent corn, 18 percent rye, and eight percent malted barley—that could point to any number of Kentucky distilleries. We have not sampled this bourbon yet, but official tasting notes describe caramel, toffee, and aged honey on the nose, followed by sweet toast, malted grain, herbal notes, dark spices, and a hint of apple on the palate.

There’s a catch, though: Lazy K Bar Bourbon will only be available at retailers in Montana (SRP $100) and is not available to purchase online, so if you want to try it for yourself it’s time to book a trip to Big Sky Country. Of course, there’s a good chance bottles might start to show up on the secondary market, but no telling how much the price will be inflated. The second half of the final season of Yellowstone won’t air until next fall, so keep your eyes peeled to see if you catch a glimpse of some Lazy K Bar product placement in the last few episodes.
