Dos Hombres Released a Tequila Aged in Four Roses Bourbon Barrels

Not all celebrity booze brands are created equal—especially when it comes to tequila—but actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have done a commendable job with their venture, Dos Hombres. The brand started out by releasing only mezcal, but it branched out into tequila last spring when it dropped a blanco expression. The latest launch is a reposado tequila that was aged in Four Roses bourbon barrels, giving this Mexican spirit a nice Kentucky assist.

Dos Hombres was founded in 2019 by the former Breaking Bad stars, who partnered with maestro mezcalero Gregorio Velasco to produce their mezcal expressions (the brand is now backed by Constellation Brands, which owns a minority stake). For the tequila, the celebs decided to work with master distiller Julio Cova, who previously worked for Casa Cuervo and retired in 2025. He decided to come out of retirement for this venture and enlisted Tequilera TAP Distillery in Amatitán, Jalisco (NOM 1614), as the production site, where a few other brands including Tres Agaves and Cazcanes are also produced.

The new reposado was made from agave pinas that were cooked in a combination of autoclaves and brick ovens before being double-distilled in copper and stainless-steel stills. It was then aged for three months in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels from the Four Roses distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. That distillery is well-known for producing 10 different bourbon recipes that are made from a combination of two mashbills and five yeast strains. After aging, the tequila spent 30 days in stainless-steel vats to aerate and settle before bottling.

“When we first launched the blanco, our goal was to show the same obsession with quality and craftsmanship that has always driven Dos Hombres could translate beautifully into tequila,” said Cranston in a statement. “The reposado gave us the opportunity to take that foundation and add another layer of depth and character,” Paul added. Master distiller Julio Cova touted the decision to use first-fill bourbon barrels for maturation, adding that “the additional resting period brings everything together—the agave, oak, and the subtle fruit and spice notes.”

Dos Hombres Reposado is available now (SRP $50) at select retailers around the country. And stay tuned for more aged tequila from Dos Hombres, because an anejo expression is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2027 (no word if that will also be aged in Four Roses barrels), and perhaps an extra anejo could arrive sometime down the road.
