Here’s Your Chance to Buy Jeremy Clarkson’s Old Ford GT

It’s hard to find a better seal of approval for a sports car than this.

A 2006 Ford GT originally owned by Jeremy Clarkson is currently up for sale, according to an Instagram post from supercar dealer Carl Hartley. That should be enough to pique the interest of most collectors out there, but, if not, the vehicle is also one of just 101 imported to the EU.

It’s easy to see why Clarkson was one of the few outside of the U.S. lucky enough to snag a first-generation GT. The two-door was unveiled in concept form as both a way of celebrating the automaker’s upcoming centenary and a tribute to the car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times in a row, the GT40. When it eventually went into production two years later, the vehicle paired a curvaceous retro-inspired body with a potent naturally aspirated V-8. The GT was in production for just over two years, during which time 4,038 examples rolled off the line, and would be followed by a second generation a decade later.

The GT is considered one of the greatest American sports cars of the modern era, but it wasn’t without its flaws. This was something that Clarkson, who has professed his love for the car on more than one occasion, would end up documenting on Top Gear. When he first took delivery of the car, it wouldn’t start because of a faulty immobilizer, and then, once that had been fixed by Ford, the alarm kept going off and its tracking system kept reporting the vehicle stolen. (In response to Hartley’s post, Clarkson commented “I hope they’ve fixed the alarm!!!”)

Clarkson’s old GT is finished in metallic dark blue topped with white racing stripes. The interior is covered with black leather with metal trim. It is powered by a rear mid-mounted 5.4-liter V-8 that makes 550 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to all that oomph, the car could rocket from zero to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph. Hartley, who works for Tom Hartley Cars, states that the car comes with a “fantastic service history” and has just 28,000 miles on the odometer.

Hartley’s post doesn’t include the asking price of Clarkson’s GT, so interested buyers will want to message him for more info. The car cost around $150,000 brand new, but we imagine it’ll go for more than that considering who its former owner is.
