According to Netflix’s latest Kdrama updates — When Life Gives You Tangerines is set in Jeju Island and follows the journeys of rebellious Ae-Sun and stoic Gwan Sik. The latter has long harboured a crush on the former and has a nickname that translates to ‘unyielding iron’ in Jeju dialect. Interestingly, the Korean title of the series is also a nod to this dialect — translating to ‘thank you for the hard work.’

K-pop idol and one of the highest-paid actors in the industry — IU is known for her work in hits like Hotel Del Luna and My Mister. In this Kdrama, she’s set to essay the role of the resolute Ae Sun who’s always going against her fate. Meanwhile, respected actor Park Bo Gum — who’s helmed popular titles like Record Of Youth and Encounter — will play the dependable Gwan-sik. The latter has always been loyal to the former and isn’t afraid of showing his affection for her through his actions. Queenmaker’s Moon So-ri and My Mister’s Park Hae-joon will play their older versions as time passes.

According to numerous reports, Hometown Cha Cha Cha’s Kim Seon-ho and Hospital Playlist’s Lee Soo-mi are set to make a guest appearance in the series.
